Leon Independent School District Police Department Stop the Bleed Drive

Please support our drive to get Stop the Bleed Kits onto our Campuses and help us "Protect the Future Today"
Together, We Can Save Lives!

Stop the bleed

My name is Tobias “Toby” Shaddix and I am the Chief of Police for the Leon Independent School District Police Department. I am reaching out to the Leon Independent School District Community and beyond to help provide our campuses with 20 “Stop the Bleed” kits.

These kits are a life-saving tool in the hands of trained staff members on our campus. Uncontrolled bleeding is the one of the number one causes of preventable death from trauma. A person with a serious arterial bleed can bleed out in as little as approximately 3 minutes. Serious bleeding from an extremity is the most frequent cause of preventable death from an injury. Life threatening bleeding warrants immediate interventions and in most cases the person who can provide that immediate care is not local EMS or 1st responders, it is the staff who are already on scene.

One of my jobs as the school resource officer is to insure the safety and security of our children and staff on this campus. One of the concerns I have for our district is to provide each campus with “Stop the Bleed” trauma kits.

Leon Independent School District is a rural district in between Marquez and Jewett Texas and 1st responder time could easily be 15 to 20 minutes or possibly more. My plan is to provide 4 kits to the elementary school campus, junior high campus, high school campus, athletic field house, and agriculture work shop.

Our district has also made arrangements to have Jewett EMS and Director Wes Collins come to our campus in August, prior to school starting, and train our staff on how to “stop the bleed”. It is critical that our staff be trained in the life saving skills of “stop the bleed”. It is critical that we not only provide the training to our staff, but we provide the tools necessary to save the life of a student or fellow staff member if the need arises. In the current day and age we live in, unfortunately we experience active shooter events, natural catastrophic events, and terrorist attacks around the world and around the United States.

Please consider joining the efforts of my department and the Leon Independent School District by donating to this worthy and potentially life-saving cause. Once the drive is over the kits will be delivered directly to the school district to be placed in strategic locations on each campus building.

Thank you so much for your support in this cause!
